Another HOME RUN in this series!I caught a couple of typos in this one that made following the reading a little difficult, but the book is very informative, with clear and concise directions and a step-by-step guide that is easy to follow. I didn't feel overwhelmed by a wave of jargon that is typical in a lot of books on the subject. But at the same time, I didn't feel like I was reading Coding for Dummies.This was a very practical approach to instruction that I appreciate and can fully understand. After reading this book I could see where I was and how far I had come in understanding JavaScript!

This is a great guide for beginners. The author really spells out the concepts and commands in a way that is easy to understand. There is a brief history on JavaScript and how it was developed and named. There is also a lot of information on the benefits you can get from using JavaScript to program. There are a lot of terms and ideas in this book that are new to me, as I am just a beginner, but I feel like I have a much better understanding of the process now. I will be using this book as a reference in the future!

My younger brother is also likes javascript and i have purchased this book for him i really believe this book will help him to get introduced with the javascript properly and be familiar with javascript coding and programming. This is the best JavaScript book I have ever browsed so far. Clearly, Nathan is an expert and I have no hesitation in recommending his book. I received this as a free download. Recommend choice.

Lots of information here, but no real writing. It's difficult to tell when the author is deliberately writing bad code or has not caught a typo in proofreading. Every time I got to a section that proposed to explain a question I had wondered about, I left more confused than I started.

I opened the book in the Kindle app on my tablet and then walked through the exercises on my computer. Everything was clear and easy to follow. At no point did I get "lost". This is really a great introduction to JavaScript. If you think you might want to gain expertise with this important computer tool, this is an easy (and inexpensive) way to test your aptitude.

I found this to be a great introduction to JavaScript. The programming is presented in an easy to understand format and is well written. I have read another of Nathan's books and found he has a great talent for teaching new things with easy to follow examples.

I was a little hesitant to purchase this book as it didn't have any reviews, and I am so glad I did! I was really impressed by the amount of information packed in this book--there is a sample day-by-day feeding guide for each stage as well as a detail list of "dos" and "don't" for what food to feed to baby through each stage. The organization of this book makes it very easy to leaf through and look for a certain type of recipe, i.e raw purees, cooked purees for stage 1 and breakfast, starter protein and dessert for stage 2 and so on. I love that there are glossy photos throughout for inspiration, as well as nutritional information on ingredients used on each recipe on every page! This is a great book for moms looking to feed their baby nutritional/delicious food--highly recommended!!!

I bought this to make baby food for my 7 month old nephew. I learned about this book from a friend who told me about all these wonderful meals she was making for her little one. The recipes are easy and the author provides good explanation as to the why and when to feed your baby certain food. I also appreciate that she explains the health benefits of certain foods to your baby.

I bought this book the help give me ideas and aide me in making nutritious and preservative free baby food and this book has some great ideas as well as some questionable ones, but just being able to look up the best way to cook a certain fruit or veggie for the baby food is priceless information.

This cookbook is a little out there if you ask me. It is very informative and thorough, but the recipes and a bit too complex to cook for a baby, in my humble opinion. Plus, on the calender that they have you use, you will have a ton of leftovers. I may use this cookbook more when my baby is older.

I was very dissatisfied with the book when it arrived. Not for the content, but the condition of the book was disgusting. It was posted as in good condition. With that posting, I expected some wear and tear to be present; however, the book had obviously been used in the kitchen (understandable since it is a recipe book); however, the seller could have taken a moment to wipe the book down. It arrived with food stuck all over the front and back covers. It went in the recycling trash bin. Disgusting.

Because Amazon merged my review to 2nd edition's page (dont you just hate that?) I have to specify: THIS IS FOR THE FIRST EDITION...This excellent book, in fact, probably the best book on the sports business I've read (which is about 12-15 for some perspective). My only wish is that the text would be updated but with post the year 2000 data and statistics. In this book many of authors cite that the NBA is the most financially successful league, obviously correct if your looking at the numbers from the 90's (as I write this, March 2010, the NBA is $400 million in the RED). Finally a text explains the why and how it came to be sports franchise owners and their leagues can legally get away with violating just about every antitrust statute; there is even a real world example of mezzanine finance included in this book. Some discussion about the issues regarding sports accoutning, but not enough in my opinion. This book has just almost everything you NEED to know about pro and even semi-pro sports, along with their respective histories.Not as in depth as a compendium but not as superficial as a survey, written and put together in a traditional "review" style text. Several authors several topics taken from their previous works contribute to this text, making some of the articles biased where others are pretty neutral towards the subject matter. Mostly it reads relatively dry and slightly academic, but with the amount of detail and research analyzed, its ok w/me; this book is not meant to be a "pop-economics" text.5 stars for detail, accuracy, relevancy...its easy to overlook its outdated data when a)you can do your own contemporaneous data research and supposition and b)see beginning of sentence. Also, its very nice for the price.NOTE: One last thing, this book does not concern itself with sports torts or player contracts/representation laws.

Great read! I'm currently a student in the SMBA program at San Diego State University and I had to read this for Sports Law class, which ironically was also taught by the author himself, Scott Rosner. This is a comprehensive look at the various focal points of business of sports along with some historical perspective, which really made the read enjoyable especially if you're interested in this subject!Definitely a must read for anybody who is looking to get more background information into the world of sports business.

This is such a wonderful patriotic tribute to our flag and country. Beautifully assembled with authentic heartfelt stories and tributes to those living and to those fallen in defense of our freedom. We purchased additional books to share with friends and family. Dear Amazon-- the editorial review you supplied here about the author is totally erroneous and laughable!! Please correct it. This book is NOT authored by John Muir the nature-writer and conservationist, born 1838 and who died in 1914, BEFORE the volkswagen was even invented. This book is by John Muir (b1918– d1977) who was a structural engineer who worked for National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), who "dropped out," 1960s-style, to become a writer and long-haired car mechanic with a garage in Taos, New Mexico, and who specialized in maintenance and repair of Volkswagens. OMG!! This is exactly the sort of thing that makes the World Wide Web so damn dangerous Amazon. Fix it please!Peter Aschwanden's art work is awesome. It reminds me of R. Crumb. The detail is amazing. The book itself is a master-piece of entertainment and a great combination of art and technology. Reading it front to back will give the novice a good understanding of what makes the wheels go round and round. You might want to have a Haynes manual handy too, but you can't go wrong with Muir/Tosh Gregg for taking your bug apart and putting it back together again. It's just damn fun!

Still the BEST!I read this book for the first time when I was in college -- in the early 80's. That reading was for my 71 Karmann-Ghia. The second time, was while I was on an airplane in 2009 as I flew to pick-up my Porsche Speedster replica. Over twenty years later and everything flowed back into my brain about the elegance of the flat-four engine. And just like in the 80s, the dog-eared copy of the latest printing of this book sits on a shelf in my garage, next to the Speedster -- the pages of the chapter titled "Tune-up" dirty with used Castrol from my hands. Thirty years later, and life repeats itself, and that is a beautiful thing.

I had owned this book before, but gave it to the person who bought my old bus. A friend who is somewhat mechanically inclined but not familiar with air cooled VW's recently bought an old bug, so I got this copy for him. If you are looking for a Haynes, Chilton, or Motor manual, this isn't it. It is more of a novel, possibly a diary about (as the title indicates) keeping VW alive. It can be an entertaining read if you like dry humor, and it doesn't hurt if you can laugh when your projects occasionally dismantle themselves for unknown reasons. I will say it contains a ton of very useful information, some of which you may not find in any other VW manual, but you have to read it closely to glean it. Buy a used copy to save yourself the grease stains you will get on a new one, and save a buck or two. Personally, I believe it is a must read for the first time air-cooled VW owner.

I got this book when I was 14 for my 1974 VW Beetle. This book taught me how engines work, how to diagnose vehicles, and prepared me for becoming my own mechanic. Unlike other manuals when you need an image for the work you are doing you will find a hand-drawn version showing you exactly what to look for (check out the Distributor page for an example). We don't have the bug, but I got this for my partner and his first car. Though it's a newer VW, it'll still teach him to work on it because the principals are the same.

If you have an aircooled beetle, ghia, bus etc. this is THE Book for you. Illustrations are great, instructions are idiot proof (which is sayin something). If you aren't mechanically inclined but are willing to learn to work on cars like an aircooled VW you need to read this book like a novel. The guidance is great, tools and techniques used are generally excellent.

I bought an original copy of this great VW manual back in the 1960's but I can't really say I noticed any updates worth mentioning in the new copy.That being said, it's a must for any new or old VW owner. The illustrations alone are worth the price!!

I am not mechanically inclined, but I love my VW. This book has helped me keep my beloved Super Beetle on the road. Thorough (enough), yet easy-to-read, this is an accessible guide to VW maintenance. It will walk you step-by-step through most of what you need to keep yours running. Written with wit and humor, it is also a very enjoyable read.You may need some other manuals for more in-depth coverage of some topics, but this book is an excellent starting point.

If you own an air cooled VW, this is a must-have! The book is humorous, insightful and extremely educational. My VW mechanic, who has been fixing VWs for over 50 years, recommended this and loaned me his copy. I had to buy it, it was so good! It is the most comprehensive guide for classic VWs and is simple to read and understand for even the most novice mechanic. It demystifies the process and gives you confidence to maintain and repair your VW Bug/Bus/Ghia/Fastback/Squareback/Notchback/etc.

This is a beautiful text. The pictures are full color, the paper is glossy, the descriptions are concise and clear, and it is not too heavy to carry along. It is well organized. What it is missing is the basic biochemistry of microorganisms, which I could really use along with the text.

I found this work historical, biographical, and hermeneutic. The author brings the Sistine Chapel, including the Last Judgment, to life in interesting ways. He utilizes metaphor, mythology, and interpretation to integrate his ideas and others' interpretations of the frescoes. His historical sources are varied, but he utilizes the writings of two of Michelangelo's contemporaries primarily for biographical purposes. The work is straightforward and enlightening, and is very well written and sourced.

At the age of 23, I stepped into the Sistine Chapel, looked up and thought, "So this is it?" As I stared at the ceiling the figures seemed to come alive and I was mesmerized. 50 years later I still remember that moment. My only complaint about this book is that I would have liked for the pictures to be next to the text rather than the pictures all at one time. I recommend having a copy of the painting as you read the descriptions and interpretations. It is a good study of a one-of-a-kind work of genius.

Well done but the best book on the subject (in my opinion) is Ross King's Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling.

I enjoyed learning more about what life was like for the sculpture turrned painter, and conditions under Pope Julius 2. Without a Catholic background, I had much to learn. How could the author know what Michelangelo was thinking so long ago? The art talk and religious theory gets heavy at times, but this is the book to cover it. I regret that the Sistine Chapel closed before I could see it, but David and St. Peter's were wonderful on my one day in Rome.

Amazing description of the life and work of Michelangelo showing how his art and his faith grew as he worked.

this was a gift for my mother (a self admitted "Mike" fan [she hauled us off to Italy but we only visited cities where he had works exhibited....]) and she raves about it. Apparently she made notes on the first run thru and now plans to read it again just for fun

The author stays focused on the subject of the book, and I like his interpretations of Michelangelo's reasoning behind the painting's design, they seem logical and plausible. The author explains his conclusions in a linear and easy to follow fashion.I also liked when the author addressed details on some of the techniques used to paint the ceiling and also how the condition of the later paintings over the span of four years let's us compare Michelangelo's progress (painting freestyle and with increased speed) as a painter.
