Seriously one of the cutest comics I've ever read - love the art and love the concept of cute queer bakers in space!

There's a whole new subgenre of graphic novel / comics about food game shows in SF settings. This is one of the best.

Absolutely delightful, I didn't want it to end.

Fun comic especially for those who like competitive cooking shows.

Fun graphic novel duology with a queer girl main character, about an intergalactic high-stakes cooking competition reality show. I'd felt lukewarm about the pitch for this because I've never really watched cooking shows, but I'm so glad I got over myself and gave it a shot. Peony, a baker from Earth, gets picked to compete in an elimination-style cooking program. The competition is much more brutal and backstabbing than she'd imagined, threatening not only her dreams for the prize but her budding romance with fellow chef Neptunia. Totally satisfying "underdog wins the day with help from her friends" story. My son (nine at the time) fell for this instantly. Can't wait to see what Riess does next.

The book mentions the island’s founder Henry Flagler – establishing Palm Beach in 1894 for the ‘recuperative powers of Florida’s sunshine’ – as well as its guests, visitors, and residents: Isadora Duncan, Gloria Swanson, Marjorie Merriweather Post, the Kennedys, Larry Flynt, John Lennon, Estee Lauder, Donald Trump, the Dodges, Helmsleys, Pulitzers, Vanderbilts, Mizners, and Madoffs – to name a few.The book is more than tales of sex, drugs, and parties – or of mansions and El Mirasol. There is history behind the stories. Palm Beach Scandallion. This was okay. I bought as I live in one of the 10 000 Palm Beaches around the world and thought it would be fun to read on a week away. It was. It is easy to read. Made me chuckle out loud in a few places. It taught me nothing, well the history of the place was interesting the chapter at the start. It reaffirmed that money does not buy: sense, taste, intelligence, humour, manners, patience or morals. Pity. I hope the book makes the writers a few dollars - because there was the tiniest twinge of envy every now and then throughout the book. It needed to be written, a more history based one would have been nice but not as juicy! Also, the bane of my life, there were a few editing problems - which always irks me. I pay money to read a book, make sure it is at least spell checked and edited....Read it on the beach, preferably a Palm Beach, the Palm Beach if you can - and the ultimate? Add a new chapter.

If you're familiar with Palm Beach then you know that some of these stories were "just the beginning" - a LOT has transpired since this book was written -be sure to read the afterward . Many of these people have had entire books written about them if your interested.

This book is one long straw man. Just as many nations that call themselves "democratic" are not democratic, many countries that call themselves "socialist" are not socialist. Instead, the state owns the means of production So those countries are, by definition, not "socialist", but rather "state capitalist".Any kid reading this book will become less smart, because they will be led to misunderstand what socialism really is.

I misread the "for Girls" part. I thought it was "for Kids". How exactly does physics differ from a boy or girl? The activities are cool. Reminiscent of a 1979 college prof of mine, who taught "male logic" & "female logic" in a computer programming class. NOTE 1979!

Cute book. Very thin and not a ton of recipes. However, she is a fun author and the kids like the projects. The book should not be titled for "girls", it's for anyone but it deters boys now.

For money spent, I could have gotten better off the internet. I was thinking there would be more then a thin comic book. Very deceptive.

About the Author

Rosemary Gibson has been credited with creating national movements for safer, more humane health care. Her first book, Wall of Silence, with co-author Janardan Prasad Singh, put a human face on medical mistakes, launching a national campaign to improve the safety of America's health care. Gibson worked with Bill Moyers on the PBS documentary On Our Own Terms. She is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and is also the founding editor of a narrative series in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Internal Medicine. She is senior advisor at the Hastings Center and the 2014 winner of the highest honor from the American Medical Writers Association. She is also the author, with Janardan P. Singh, of three other books on health care.      Janardan Prasad Singh is economic advisor at the World Bank. He designs strategies to strengthen economic development, health care, global trade, and national security for countries around the world. He has served as an advisor to prime ministers of India on national security affairs. Formerly, he was a member of the Board of Contributors of the Wall Street Journal.

The book breaks new ground - no one has ever gone down the pharmaceutical product rabbit hole before. The author manages to get interviews from industry players from a variety of perspectives - American pharmaceutical scientists displaced by outsourcing to China - also, lawyers, consultants, academics, think tanks and others with inside knowledge. Noticeably absent is US policymakers - because there are none. This would never happen in China where the government promotes and even enforces that are good for China. Industry, quite legally has moved its operations to China and goodbye STEM jobs. The author's main point, that the US has knowingly outsourced the strategic manufacturing of products vital to its citizenry is chilling. China, suddenly, is the only manufacturer of key ingredients without which drugs cannot be made. Chinese manufacturers are often cited in violation of quality standards yet this is likely to increase as they have no competitor - not outside of China, at least. The threat of withholding these drugs from the US market could be used against us as an instrument of intimidation in trade war, for example. For me, this story is yet another example of yet another industry that we have thoughtlessly thrown away to low cost producers with no thought of the strategic, technological or labor consequences we bear as a society. The system is broken and we are exposed to any aggressive or irresponsible actions by out Chinese "partners".

Rosemary Gibson has done the nation a great service by providing a clear snapshot of the perils of Chinese active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediate chemicals. I had sort of expected that American pharma was importing a great deal, but I was not prepared to read in many cases that entire classes of drugs are no longer made in the US, and that Chinese companies now have monopolies & cartels for many of them.I also had not been following the travails of the US FDA in managing to conduct inspections of Chinese pharma companies, and I was also not ready to read that the entire inspection and surveillance schemes are broken.Rosemary Gibson lays out a 10-point plan to get American pharma back in the manufacturing business, if for no other reason than it would seem to be a national security imperative.I was quoted briefly in the book, but even though I myself am involved in Chinese biotech and pharma, I could not see the forest for the trees, and this book has done much to lift me out of the woods on several critical topics.

Anyone who takes medicine must read this book. The drug, VALSARTAN, hugely prescribed drug, just got recalled July 2018, due to a known carcinogen being in the drug. This is a drug that I took. A very COMMON blood pressure drug. We are ALL vulnerable. Time to bring our essential manufacturing (drugs, medical devices, food, military hardware, etc) back home to the USA where it belongs!

This book details a problem that affects every American. Essentially, it details the fact that China controls the world production of every one of this country’s supply of prescription medicines and over the counter drugs. Just think for a minute about what would happen if they decided to cut off our supply.this is a must read.

As someone who has been interested by and fascinated with China for awhile, I was familiar with some of the things mentioned in the book, but I was still shocked by the scale of China’s hold on world market of pharmaceutical active ingredients. I didn’t realize that the Chinese government was orchestrating the country’s monopoly on pharmaceuticals and deliberately scheming to push other manufacturers out of the market, but it didn’t surprise me either... I have lent my copy of this book to friends to read and sent another copy to someone else. Anyone who ever takes any sort of medication should read this book.

Like a Hollywood blockbuster, China Rx opens with a story of a contaminated drug and its consequences for a patient, his family and health care providers. In this superbly researched book, we soon realize that in our current world with its long supply chains, we should be suspicious of every medication whether it is an over-the-counter pill purchased at our local store or an injection administered during a complex hospitalization. In some cases, the medication won’t be effective because it doesn’t contain the intended amount of its active ingredient. In others, the medication might contain a contaminant that causes irreparable harm. These are concerns that now will get added to the uncertainty associated with any symptom or illness. Highly recommended for anyone who takes or administers medications.

I could not put this book aside - In fact I contacted Ms. Gibson to discuss some of the data points that she and her co-author state. They have educated me to the extent that I now seek to research the how China has quietly taken over both drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Coming from a software background, I was stunned to learn about China working with India as the Chinese ship APIs to India by the boat load. As a corollary, it pained me to learn how our FDA is so understaffed "in country".Further, take a hard look at US Big Pharma and learn how they have have China the Wal-Mart of our your medicine chest. Challenge your doctors - your pharmacist and your congressional representatives. Just think - we're in a tariff war and your subscriptions are part of a bigger picture - Buy the book.

In reading this book I am reminded that the Lord today continues to have a special place in His heart for the Jewish people. It is a Passover Seder that author John Pointier has fell in love with while spending 2 1/2 years in Israel, and now celebrates it with family and many different church groups.This is an excellent resource to educate you on what each element represents while helping you gain a deeper love for the price that was paid on your behalf and the goodness and mercy of God extended. You will be walked through the step by step process that the Lord celebrated in the upper room the night He was betrayed. Each of the 4 cups of wine within the meal will represent sanctification, plagues, redemption, and praise.I do not want to give away each detail except to say that this is an excellent resource to continually refer to as I know many will want to incorporate this meal on a regular yearly basis. To aid in the completion of the ceremony, at the end of the book there is a checklist with recipes to help one prepare the evening Seder. Too is a description of what each table should comprise of as a set-up especially if many are to partake of this.As many actively participate in this meal and pass this along to new generations the Exodus story will capture heart-felt anointed revelation unsurpassed. I give this book a 5 star rating and highly recommend it for every family and church library.

I attended a Seder just a few days after downloading and reading this little book about understanding and participating in a Christian Seder. The book is very Christ centered yet explained the meanings ofeach part of the traditional Passover rituals from both a traditional and Messianic viewpoint.I liked being able to participate in the readings and responses. To taste the bitter and sweet, to know about the stripes and piercings of the Matzo and to better understand GOD's purposes; and tracing the Messiah through the scriptures. I found this little book easy to read and understand and I highly recommend this book to churches and families wishing to understand the Feast of Passover from the Bible.

I have attended Passover Seders in the past, and I thought I understood them. I realized after reading this book that I had not gotten the full impact of the Passover Seder. I found myself tearing up several times as I read this book, and began to gain a better understanding of how the Seder foretold of how Jesus would redeem his people. More specifically how he would redeem me.This is a great resource to be able to prepare and host a Seder. It is easy to follow, explains the parts of the Seder, and has recipes. I was pleased with the pictures as they enhanced the book visually and were helpful in gaining a better understanding of the Seder. This is a great book.

I was part of preparing and hosting a seder meal and found this book to be a helpful resource. It's written well, from a Christian perspective, and we could have used this book exclusively had we chosen to do so. The only critique I have, and it's a mild one, is that it's a bit too Christian for my taste. This is a meal that commemorates and celebrates God's saving power as revealed in the First Covenant and I feel this deserves the utmost reverence. Nevertheless, if you've never experienced a seder meal and want to prepare such an experience, I recommend this resource. There are recipes in the back that could be helpful. Also the little dictionary of seder meal language alone is worth getting this book.

I looked at this book from the viewpoint of a busy mother trying to work out how to put on a Christian passover celebration for our family this year. I had done it several years back, when my children where younger, and I remember it being a lot of work. I had to cobble together ideas and instructions, readings and recipes from many different sources. How I wish I'd had this book. In basically what amounts to an evening's read for the buyer of this book, the author pulls together the readings for the celebration, suggestions for organising the celebration as a group, useful lists, recipes and digrams. Absolutely brilliant. After tonight's skimming of the book, I look forward to pulling together a far easier feast than before!

A very thorough & helpful guide for Christians who want to celebrate Passover. I like that it explains the traditional symbols, as well as the new symbolism in Christ. There are very good explanations I haven't seen in any other guide. The recipes, suggestions and sign up lists are also very helpful.I have explored several Haggadahs, & I would say this one is one of the best I've seen. I would suggest that newbies to Passover look for an opportunity to attend and experience a Seder (if possible) before trying to plan one on your own.
